Course Overview:

The Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Foundation Course is a beginners course for qualified
doctors and other healthcare professionals, with little or no acupuncture and Chinese medicine experience, to learn syndrome acupuncture and Chinese medicine. The course is jointly organised by the AcuMedic Foundation and the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and takes place over two weekends. It counts as 24 CPD credits.

Syndrome acupuncture is the main form of acupuncture practiced in China. It is a much broader and more encompassing technique than Western trigger-point acupuncture and can be used to treat a wider range of problems. By learning both syndrome acupuncture and Chinese medical theory, you will build up a solid theoretical foundation of Chinese medicine, while also honing your practical skills.

This course is unmatched in expertise and flexibility, and is extremely hands-on with patient demonstrations and clinical tuition. This valuable experience in syndrome acupuncture and Chinese medicine will give you an extra resource to diagnosis and treat patients and enable you to gain a deeper, holistic understanding of the human body.

Starts:25th September 2010

Chinese Herbal Materia Medica is an important part in the practice of Chinese medicine.
A physician needs thorough knowledge of at least 200 herbs and 100 formulae in order to individualise their prescription to their patients. Chinese Herbal Materia Medica is not just a scholarly subject but also an important tool for clinicians.

This course uses an innovative approach in teaching the practitioners who are already using patent medicine but wishes to go on to issuing individualised herbal prescription.
It is intended for the graduate of the DCMAc and DCHAc diploma course or equivalent qualification.

The course consists of 28 modules being covered in two years. Two modules are given at a time at the weekend. This course includes dispensary practice, prescription tuition with patients, clinical practice tests and a final examination.

The second CMIR Newsletter July 1999 was 14 pages and had several articles including minutes of the committee meeting.

In 2000 the first CMIR study trip to Beijing was a huge success, the first of many.

On 29th April 2003 the CMIR organised the Chinese medicine legislation forum, a historic event attended by all the member acupuncture and TCM societies. This led to a statement of Joint Agreement.

On the 8th June 2005, the establishment of the Chinese Medicine Council UK was announced again due to a lot of work by CMIR. Feb 2005 publication of the Department of Health report on the consultation of statutory regulation of herbal medicine and acupuncture. The CMIR was involved at several stages of this process.

17-18th March 2007, the CMIR East-West Medical conference: Integrative Medicine – The Future? eminent speakers from around the world including a WHO delegate.

All the proceeding events show how active the CMIR is and we now wish to announce the launch of the new e-Syndrome.
