This publication is a translation from the French book Utilization Clinique de la Pharmacopee Chinoise: Les Substances Medicinales Preparees by Philippe Sionneau. It is the first publication in any Western language to discuss in a practical and exhaustive manner the study of pao zhi, the processing of medical substances for enhanced therapeutic effect. As such, it represents real progress for a better comprehension and utilization of the traditional Chinese pharmacopia.

Philippe Sionneau is a diplomat of the Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This book is the result of his studies of medicinal preparation at the Wu Han University Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
