In this sixth edition the general layout and style and the division into general and systemic chapters have been retained. We have concentrated on ‘core’ topics and on what we feel to be clinically relevant pathology. We have attempted to accommodate, but also keep in perspective, the continuing rapid expansion in knowledge of cell and molecular pathology, but recognize that our attempts at simplification do not tell the whole story.

We believe that communication by verbal and written methods is the fundamental basis for study and learning.
