Provides greater understanding of the issues involved in assessing and treating people with pain. - By Strong, Unruth, Wright, and Baxter. (2002) 461pp
Many people in our communities have ailments that cause pain. As Professor Ronald Melzack has noted, unrelieved pain kills. It is therefore a responsibility of all health professionals to be knowledgeable about, and skilled in the assessment and management of, pain. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists have particularly crucial roles to play in this regard. In recognition of this, in1994, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) published the Outline Curriculum on Pain for Schools of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Since then implementation of the OT/PT Pain Curriculum has been hampered by the lack of an integrated, comprehensive textbook to support. Pain: A Textbook for Therapists has been written to meet that need.
