Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a physical therapy (or manual therapy) specializing in the treatment of soft tissue pain and injury (including change in sensation) while medical exercise aims to provide graded physical activities with specific motor learning sequences to restore functional capacity and reduce risk of injury occurrence.

NMT is innovative in that it combines the best selection of soft tissue manipulation techniques developed by pioneers with a variety of qualifications and professional backgrounds from osteopathy, chiropractic, naturopathy, trigger point therapy to name but a few. This text will outline a rationale concerning the appropriate sequence of neuromuscular therapy and medical exercise interventions with a view to providing a framework within which informed choices, related to facilitating a patients return to pain free movement, can be implemented.
