A clinical ergonomics approach to prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. - By Andrew Wilson. (2002) 275pp
In Effective Management of Musculoskeletal Injury the author presents a model for understanding musculoskeletal injuries. He describes the common types of musculoskeletal injury and explores the contributory causes involved before detailing effective models for therapy and methods of management.
In Section 1 the text looks first at the injury process. It examines the different types of injury and relates these to the pathophysiological processes involved. Specific reference is made to the ergonomic, personal and psychosocial factors which need to be considered.
The rest of the book looks at musculoskeletal pain and related injuries in different anatomical regions. Section 2 addresses the epidemiology and risk factors of low back pain together with the types of injury and their management. Section 3 examines neck, shoulder and arm injuries including nerve entrapments and multiple tissue disorders. Management strategies for chronic injuries are described.
Effective Management of Musculoskeletal Injury is research based. It develops models for the management of musculoskeletal pain that include manual therapy, exercise, ergonomic and psychosocial interventions. Throughout the text particular attention is paid to pain resulting from cumulative and chronic types of injury. The book will be a valuable resource for all practitioners who deal with the management of musculoskeletal pain as part of their day-to-day practice.
