Description

This book extends deeper into the known body of anatomical knowledge, and explores the frontiers and it's relationship to disease processes. - By J. Upledger. (1999) 259pp

This book further develops themes described in Dr Upledger’s first groundbreaking work ‘Craniosacral Therapy’. It extends deeper into the known body of anatomical knowledge, and explores the frontiers of healing with the craniosacral system, as its guide.

In chapter 1, the author describes each of the cranial nerves and how they can be effectively influenced by craniosacral therapy. By integrating the peripheral cranial nerve systems with their connections in the brain, Dr Upledger shows how dysfunctions of the craniosacral system can have a dramatic effect on the behaviour of the individual.

Chapter 2 verbally and pictorially dissects the fascial anatomy of the neck from the perspective of the craniosacral system, providing a useful view of this rather complex area of the human body. Utilizing this model of cervical soft tissue anatomy, the practitioner will be better able to effectively understand and correct functional problems of this area.

Chapter 3 scrutinizes the temporomandibular joint and the ‘TMJ syndrome’. The craniosacral oriented view of the functional anatomy of this joint is placed is placed in the context of the whole person. While this chapter is sure to generate controversy, its focus is upon what can be done to aid the ‘TMJ’ syndrome sufferer.

Chapter 4 focuses upon those concepts and discoveries, which have unfolded in Dr. Upledger’s clinical practice during the past five years. The author explains some of the more significant physiological concepts, which underlie his work (e.g. the facilitated segment) while emphasizing the role of whole body phenomena.

With over 120 illustrations and an extensive glossary and index, this is a book that all serious practitioners of craniosacral therapy will find to be a most valuable addition to their professional libraries.
