Amma, which means 'push-pull' in Chinese, is an ancient bodywork healing art. Together with acupuncture and herbalism it forms the foundation of traditional Chinese medicine. Tina Sohn learned Amma in Korea at her grandmother’s knee and later developed it into Amma therapy, a revolutionary form of wholistic bodywork. Amma therapy incorporates elements of acupuncture, herbalism, diet, and exercise to restore, promote, and maintain the movement of Qi (life energy) within the body. The techniques used in Amma therapy focus on balancing the musculoskeletal system and promoting the proper circulation of Qi, Blood, and Fluids, which regulate all the physiological processes of the body. Key to Amma therapy is the strength and sensitivity of the practitioner’s hands, which manipulate Qi within the patient to restore the balance of energies essential for good health and disease prevention.
