This is a practical, clinical text of traditional Chinese diagnosis and acupuncture therapy. Advice is given about ways to avoid common pitfalls in diagnosis and about looking at a problem from different aspects.Incl. more than 80 charts.(1993) 205pp
This is a practical, clinically oriented exposition if traditional Chinese diagnosis and acupuncture therapy. The book consists of nine series of cases, each of which is devoted to a type of disorder that is commonly seen in the acupuncture clinic: common cold, cough, dizziness, headache, lower back pain, painful obstruction, wind-stroke, insomnia, and palpitations.
In each of the 40 illustrative case histories, the authors provide an easy-t-follow, step-by-step method for applying the traditional Chinese diagnostic art of differentiation of patterns to these palpitations.
Each case analyses the patients’ presentation, explains the underlying theory of the case, and identifies the cause and site of the disorder. As expected, the discussion details the pathological changes, pattern of disease, treatment principles, and appropriate acupuncture points. Additional notes of knotty aspects of the case, and an explanation of why particular points were chosen for treatment, are also provided, as is a follow-up.
The salient feature of this book is the clarity and immediacy with which the authors present information about the pattern themselves, and how they link up with treatment. Practical advice is given about ways to avoid common pitfalls in diagnosis, and about different ways of looking at the same problem. More than 80 charts graphically illustrate the material in the case histories, and each chapter concludes with a master chart that summarizes the steps for diagnosing the particular disorder.
Functional, detailed and well organised, this book brings to life the concepts of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in clinical practice.
